CHESTER RTC NEWS

At  the June meeting of the Chester Republican Town Committee Bruce Watrous announced his intention not to seek reelection in November.  The RTC thanked Bruce for his 12 years of service to the community as Selectmen. Bruce has always acted with the best interests of Chester in mind. The perspective he brought to the board will be missed.

To fill the vacancy left by Bruce, the RTC is endorsing Tom Englert as candidate for the Board of Selectmen, joining incumbent First Selectman Tom Marsh on the 2009 ticket.

Tom Englert currently serves on the Zoning Board of Appeals as well as the W.P.C.A. As a lifelong resident of our area (Deep River and Chester) and a Valley Regional High School graduate, he brings to the ticket a thorough knowledge of our community as well as a demonstrated ability to listen to and carefully consider the points of view of all those who have had business before the boards on which he serves.  Tom is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a bachelor's degree in computer engineering and is employed by Whelen Engineering Company as a computer programmer. Tom's family has deep roots in Chester where his great aunt and uncle owned and operated Tilly's Rest summer cottages near Cedar Lake for many years.  Tom has resided in Chester since 1996 and is married to his wife Terri.

Tom Marsh will be seeking his third term in office. In addition to serving two terms as First Selectman Tom has served on the Boards of Finance and Education. Tom holds a bachelors degree in Business Administration and a M.B.A. in Marketing. The Marshes have lived in Chester for 20 years and have three children. Ashley is a graduate of Mercy High School and Colby Sawyer College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. James is a Valley Regional High School graduate, Eagle Scout, and currently attends Lyndon State College. Christine will be entering her junior year at Valley.

If you would like to volunteer to be a part of the process please contact Mario Gioco at 526-9195. Party affiliation does not matter. A basic agreement with our 2005 & 2007 platform and a willingness to be a part of a team is all we ask. Many hands make for light work!
