General Information
Each year on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend Chester runs a townwide tag sale. This year the date is Saturday, May 26. Chester residents and merchants list their tag sales on the Town-wide Tag Sale map. The map, which is distributed on the day of the event, lists the locations of all sales happening that day.

Visitors flock to Chester from all over Connecticut and New York, and even as far away as New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Vermont, to partake in the concentration of fabulous tag sales that happen here in Chester that day. Each year more than 500 maps, listing usually over 60 sales, are distributed.

The event was conceived by Sosse Baker of Chester Gallery in the mid 90's. It was run by the Chester Merchants for many years, who were joined by the Chester Historical Society in 2003.  This year the event will be run by the Chester Republican Town Committee.

All proceeds from listing fees, advertising, and map sales benefit the Chester Republican Town Committee. Everyone who helps to run this program is a volunteer. No one receives any renumeration for the work that they do make this event happen each year. In part, proceeds from the event are used for map printing, event promotion, and, because of all the traffic in town, for extra police duty during the event. All remaining proceeds are contributed to the Chester Republican Committee to help promote and better our town, provide support and serve the public.

It's a great way to spend a day of fun and relaxation! For professional dealers, it affords you an extremely efficient day of shopping to replenish your inventory. Chester residents and businesses who wish to have a sale get the benefit of traffic volume that is rarely seen in Chester. Through word of mouth, reputation, and our promotional efforts, over 1000 people stream into Chester the day of the event. For less than the cost of a single classified ad, you get the benefit of traffic volume that you could not hope to achieve on your own with any amount of advertising!

Don't Be A Poacher!
If you are having a sale on the day of the Townwide Tag Sale event, please pay your listing fee! The fees we charge allow the Chester Historical Society to print the maps and promote the event to attract visitors to Chester. All work is done by volunteers. No money goes to individuals. Any excess funds are contributed to the general funds of the Chesater Historical Society and benefit the community at large. Don't take advantage of the good will of the majority of people who make the small contribution requested to support this event. Don't be a poacher! Please do your part! As discussed in the section above, it's great deal!

Thanks to Our Supporters
Many businesses take out an ad simply to provide financial support for the event. Please show your appreciation by frequenting the establishments of those who advertise on the map!
